Just lost my best friend because of my sexuality?

I just told my boyfriend I am a lesbian, I have known for a while but when I started dating him I thought I was bisexual. I figured it would hurt him more the longer it took me to tell him. But his response was so different than anybody else I have told. He said I disgust him, he never wants to talk to me again, and I should go join all my "little friends" at their parade in New York. He then texted my best friend that the "born this way" term is a load of **** and that everyone who is gay chooses to be that way. He has insulted me more than anyone in my whole life. But I understand he is upset, even though are relationship didn't get very far. I told him im sorry, but what do I do? Is this how everyone reacts? will he get over it? PLEASE HELP!
